The strength of this architectural design is the visual power and beauty of its surroundings. The back is set against the Corcovado Forest, the front looks out over the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, the ocean, the Dois Irmãos mountain and Guanabara Bay. Rhythm, symmetry and rigidity are natural consequences of a metallic structure that defines the architectural unit. With ample spaces, precise details and bold architectural techniques, the project aims to enhance its conceptual purity, through order, functionality and beauty. Two overlapping cross-shaped volumes are permeated by open spaces that prevent unwanted moisture, by creating natural ventilation and cross drafts. The interface of a rational structure with the rugged landscape creates an interesting contrast between organic and rationalism, ecology and technology.
